How to clean a Tassimo Bosch coffee machine?

If you own a Bosch Tassimo coffee machine, you understand the pleasure of making delicious hot drinks effortlessly. To ensure your machine continues to deliver the best-tasting drinks and operates efficiently, regular maintenance is essential. One important part of this maintenance is descaling. But how to clean a Tassimo bosch coffee machine?

Why Should You Descale Your Tassimo Coffee Machine?

You might not realise it, but your Tassimo machine, much like a car or an oven, requires regular maintenance and cleaning to ensure consistent coffee quality over time. The water used in your coffee machine can lead to limescale deposits, which can negatively impact your machine’s performance and the taste of your beverages. Regular descaling removes these buildups, allowing your Tassimo to function optimally and keeping your drinks flavourful.

Tassimo Descaling: What Do You Need to Descale Your Tassimo Coffee Machine?

Descaling Tablets

Use a universal descaler or descaling tablets, such as the Bosch Tassimo Descaling Tablets, available on the MaxiCoffee website.

Contrary to a lot of the information you can find online, we recommend you avoid using white vinegar, as it can damage the machine’s seals. This might lead to you machine no longer working which would likely void your warranty.

Tassimo Service T-Disc

Your machine comes with a Service T-Disc, usually stored in a compartment on the side or back of the machine. This disc is essential for initiating the descaling program. Ensure you use the correct disc for your machine model:

How Often Should You Descale Your Tassimo?

You now know the ins and outs of descaling your Tassimo coffee machine.

As a general guideline, it’s recommended to descale your machine every 2 to 3 months. The frequency of descaling primarily depends on the hardness of the water you use to brew your coffee.

Water hardness can vary based on your location. To determine the hardness of your water, you can use specially designed test strips.

The good news is that Tassimo coffee machines come with a built-in system that automatically detects limescale buildup. You don’t need to guess when it’s time to descale—your coffee maker will notify you by displaying the ‘calc’ light or the spray icon.

THE TASSIMO FILTER CARTRIDGE TO PREVENT LIMESCALE BUILD-UP

If you use tap water to fill the reservoir of your coffee machine, you need a filter cartridge.

Why is it important to use a filter cartridge on your Tassimo?

  1. A filter cartridge neutralises the taste of your water, ensuring that the flavour of your coffee remains unaltered. Since coffee consists of over 98% water, using water that tastes like chlorine will diminish the essence of your coffee.
  2. Additionally, the filter cartridge removes a significant amount of limescale, which helps protect your capsule machine.

Without it, there is a risk of the water pipe becoming blocked. This could lead to leaks in your machine, which can be irreversible and may require you to purchase a new machine.

How do you install a filter cartridge in a Tassimo machine?

You can install the cartridge from the first time you use your machine. While the manufacturer may supply one, it’s recommended to purchase a cartridge at the same time you buy your coffee maker.

The installation process is simple: before turning on your machine, fill the water tank and immerse the cartridge with the cap facing down. This will allow any trapped air to escape. Once no more bubbles rise, you can flip the cartridge over and place it in the slot at the bottom of the water tank. Your cartridge is now ready to filter the water!

If, during the initial rinse, the water does not flow and the machine has difficulty pumping the water, then the cartridge is likely either not properly installed or there is still air trapped inside. Be sure to check that the cartridge is securely and correctly inserted and that it is moistened.

When should I change the filter cartridge in my Tassimo?

The cartridge should be changed regularly, every two and a half months or so.

Why should I do this? The cartridge is in contact with the water, which encourages the proliferation of bacteria and mould.

How can you tell? Most automatic machines give a signal when the cartridge needs changing. If this is not the case with your model, simply write the month of installation on the top of your cartridges. This will make it easier to check how much time is left each time you fill the water tank.

OUR ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS ABOUT TASSIMO DESCALING

DOES DESCALING AFFECT THE OPERATION OF THE COFFEE MACHINE?

Proper descaling significantly enhances the performance of your Tassimo coffee maker. It helps maintain optimal pressure, temperature, and beverage quality. When limescale builds up, the machine takes longer to heat up, wears out more quickly, and can negatively affect the taste of your coffee.

HOW DO I TURN OFF THE ‘CALC’ INDICATOR WHEN IT FLASHES RED?

The ‘calc’ light or spray icon indicates that descaling is necessary. To turn it off, carry out a complete descaling operation using specific tablets, following all the steps in the cleaning cycle. Once the cleaning is finished, the light will automatically turn off.

CAN YOU DESCALE YOUR COFFEE MACHINE WITH WHITE VINEGAR?

We strongly advise against using white vinegar to clean your machine, as it is too aggressive and may damage the internal seals, potentially invalidating the warranty. It’s recommended to use descaling tablets specifically designed for your capsule machine.

You now know how to descale your Tassimo coffee machine correctly. We can only repeat: it’s essential to look after your coffee machine properly to keep it working properly, and to continue enjoying quality coffee!  By following these steps and maintaining a regular descaling schedule, you’ll keep your Tassimo machine in top condition, ensuring every cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate is as delicious as the first.
